Unity

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!   Psalm 133:1

But here is my question to you: How good and pleasant are we to God these days?

Are we, God’s church – the body of Christ, truly living together in unity?

I think the answer is clear if we just look around at the division and strife happening around the world today, and at the organized church systems limited affect on society. What do you think?

I in no way want to be a church bash-er! I came to believe in Jesus, was baptized and received the Holy Spirit in an organized church. It was a very special time in my life that I am so grateful for. But if we look at the organized church of today – we are so divided. We are warned by Jesus in Matthew 12:25

“Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.”

When we are united in Christ for one purpose there is power – power against evil and the enemy.  If we are not united, we are divided!  The word is always true.

In John 17:20-23, just before Jesus went to the cross, he prayed for unity:

“That all of them may be one”

“That they may be one as we are one”

“So they may be brought to complete unity”

Where have we gone wrong?

We have allowed the enemy to divide us. The devil has divided us by dogma, doctrine and denominations; divided us by pride, offenses and unforgiveness. This is not what God has called us to. God has called us to be united. We are to be united in heart, mind and purpose for his Kingdom – united in love, one for another!

United we can accomplish all things in Christ.  Divided we will not stand.

As 1  Corinthians 12:12 teaches us, the body is one unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.  So it is with Christ.  In verse 12:25 it says there should be no division in the body.

We are the body of Christ, and each one of us is part of it.  We are to be one!

Let us each remember what God teaches us in Colossians 3:12-14

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

If we, the true church, are going to have any positive impact on our society in the days ahead, we MUST begin to put God’s word into practice.  We MUST work together as one body, for one purpose – together in perfect unity.

It begins with you!
It begins with me!

Let’s become a community in unity!
