Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:4, 5 – NIV
In weeks past, and throughout this blog, we have discussed the importance of not trusting all of the teachings out there in the world today. Why? Because men and women themselves can be deceived – bringing forth teachings they have been taught by others, and not necessarily coming from the Word of God, but from their own opinions.
1 Timothy 4:1 teaches us:
The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
So we have been warned!
One thing NOT taught in the Bible is that God is three, individual persons, as so many denominational churches teach. The trinitarian doctrine is not a biblical doctrine and it contradicts the Bible in so many ways.
The Scriptures do not teach a trinity of persons and it is not found in the Bible. The Bible emphasizes the oneness of God. Let’s look at some the Scriptures and how God describes himself in his Word. First let’s look in the Old Testament.
Let’s look in the book of Isaiah:
“Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.” Isaiah 43:10-11
“I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6
“Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.” Isaiah 44:8
“I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself” Isaiah 44:24
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:6
“And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. “Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:21-22
Lets look at a few more Scriptures throughout God’s Word.
Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Malachi 2:10
The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name. Zechariah 14:9

In short, the Old Testament speaks of God as being one. Many times the Bible calls God “the Holy One”, but never “the holy two” or the “holy three”.
The New Testament also teaches there is but one God, as well as teaching us about the fullness of God in Jesus Christ.
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him. Colossians 1:19
Jesus himself said in John 14:5-7:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
We will look at the Oneness of God in our next blog when we look at New Testament Scriptures.
