Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV)
Do we as believers truly understand the glorious name of Jesus? The name of Jesus is the name above ALL names!
Do we as believers stand in the power given to us by the name of Jesus? To our shame, I think most of us do not!
Jesus teaches us (all emphasis added):
“Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:19, 20
There is power even among just two or three believers who come together in his name. There is power in the name of Jesus – a power rarely seen in this day and age.
Again, Jesus himself teaches us:
. . . these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16:17, 18
Do you believe? It is not in ourselves that we can do these things. It is in the power of the name of Jesus!
But we have to ask ourselves, are we really gathering in the name of Jesus? Is Jesus even truly invited? Do we pray in the name of Jesus? So many times I hear prayers – but they are not asked in the name of Jesus. Most times I hear something like “in your beautiful precious name”. But, what is that beautiful precious name? It is the name of Jesus.
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified. John 14:13
You may ask anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:14
You have an enemy who just loves it when you do not use the name of Jesus.
Why? Because the name of Jesus is where the power is. If you do not ask and pray in the name of Jesus, you are praying in the flesh – and this is just what the enemy wants. So if anyone ever tells you that you don’t need to pray in the name of Jesus, please, get in the Word for yourself, and you will see differently. The devil hates Jesus, and the power he has given to believers in his name.
Jesus taught us this – just prior to his death:
If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.
They treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. John 15:18, 19b, 20b, 21
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Acts 2:21). We are to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus. (Acts 2:38) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) We are to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom and the name of Jesus. (Acts 8:12)
By believing in the name of Jesus there is life. Without Jesus people may be living, but they do not have life.
My prayer is that you will read and study about the name of Jesus for yourself and in your communities – and stand in the power of the precious name of Jesus. I pray this in the name of Jesus!
